South China University of Technology (SCUT) is one of the major universities in China. It is directly affiliated to the State Ministry of Education. Formerly known as South China Institute of Technology, the university was first established in 1952. Unifying several major institutes of technology in Guangdong province at the time, and also joined by relevant departments and disciplines from universities in other provinces at the time, the university and its predecessors have a long history in education and research, especially in training talents of engineering and technology. After over 60 years of development, SCUT has become a multi-disciplinary university, combining science, engineering, business management, arts and social science and other disciplines. Since its founding, it has educated over 326,000 graduates at all levels. Large numbers of SCUT alumni have made major contributions to the country in fields like politics, economy, technology and education.Determining to take more active and efficient roles in globalized educational environment and international academic activities, SCUT has established connections and corporations with over 50 overseas universities, being committed to multiple programs aimed at promoting talent cultivation and scientific research. There are international students from more than 100 countries in the campus, studying Chinese language and culture, natural science, engineering, and business management.
South China University of Technology (SCUT) is one of China’s key universities operating under the direct leadership of the State Ministry of Education. Located in famous city of Guangzhou in south China, it occupies almost 3 million square meters in area and the university is currently divided into 2 campuses—Wushan Campus in Tianhe District of Guangzhou, which is laurelled by the State Ministry of Education as “civilized campus” for its beautiful scenery and perfect combination of national architecture and modern buildings; and Universities Town Campus in Panyu District of the city, which supplies ideal environment and facilities for students.After 63 years of development, SCUT has become a multidisciplinary university of high reputation in South China and in the whole country, focusing on engineering, combined with science, also promoting well coordinated development of management, economics, humanities and law. The university currently offers 80 undergraduate programs, of which 22 are among the Province’s most prominent university study programs.

There are currently 27 schools in the university with 2 first-level national key disciplines, 3 second-level national key disciplines, 24 first-level Guangdong provincial key disciplines. As for graduate programs, the university grants 25 doctorate authorization first-level disciplines, 42 master degree authorization first-level disciplines, 107 and 193 specialties leading respectively to Doctoral and Master Degree.
